NEW GOVERNMENT BAILOUT IS BLANK CHEQUE

The Liberal Democrats today attacked the Government's latest bank bailout. Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable, said that without a thorough review of all the assets that are being underwritten, ministers were effectively writing a blank cheque to the banks.

Does Heathrow need a third runway?

The Government has given the green light to build Heathrow's third runway. The main argument centred on trying to solve the real fact that Heathrow is overcrowded and is operating at over 90% capacity. The Government says that a third runway is necessary to meet rising demand. The Liberal Democrats oppose a third runway and propose major investment in high speed rail links with the UK's major cities to reduce domestic air travel as well as carbon emissions. Local campaigner Rosie Sharpley says, "This dossier clearly shows how the Conservatives are not green on the environment. They are just blue - as they have always been.
