The Liberal Democrats today attacked the Government's latest bank bailout. Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable, said that without a thorough review of all the assets that are being underwritten, ministers were effectively writing a blank cheque to the banks.

The Government has given the green light to build Heathrow's third runway. The main argument centred on trying to solve the real fact that Heathrow is overcrowded and is operating at over 90% capacity. The Government says that a third runway is necessary to meet rising demand. The Liberal Democrats oppose a third runway and propose major investment in high speed rail links with the UK's major cities to reduce domestic air travel as well as carbon emissions. Commenting on reports that the Government is planning to guarantee up to £20bn of loans to small businesses, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable said: "The Government's proposal, essentially the same as that of the Conservatives, potentially involves very large taxpayer liabilities and is in effect a subsidy to bank lending."
The Government's plans for new laws will do little to help hard-pressed families in Woking claims a leading local Liberal Democrat.
Local campaigner Rosie Sharpley says, "This dossier clearly shows how the Conservatives are not green on the environment. They are just blue - as they have always been. Bus services in Woking are cut each year by Surrey's Conservative-controlled County Council and bus fares keep going up. How is this 'green' Conservative Party policy?"
